On-Line Literature Review on the topic of academic reading

Dear colleagues and friends of Learn Higher at London Metropolitan
University.

Can I draw your attention to an interesting project that recently began
which I hope you might be interested in?

Kate Hoskins, one of our visiting lecturers and also a postgraduate
student, will be writing an online literature review on academic reading
over the next few months. The purpose of this is to introduce students
to the purpose and structure of a successful Literature Review and to
show them the highs and lows of the writing process.

By recording each aspect of her writing process, including drafts,
revisions and reflections, Kate hopes that students will get a sense of
what writing a literature review is about. She will be keeping a blog
with her reflections on the process and she will publish drafts on a pbwiki.

We are hoping that as many people as possible will contribute to this
project. It will be possible to comment on the blog entries and to give
encouragement. We will also be able to make suggestions for improving
the actual lit review directly on the pbwiki, although it will be up to
Kate to decide if she wants to accept any of these suggestions. We will
hopefully see how helpful the kind of collaboration and writerly
encouragement that goes on in a learning development centre can be.

It would be really great if as many people as possible participated in
this project. Obviously, the more who take part and the wider the range
of input, the more interesting the project will be. And if you could
send this announcement to any academics, students, writers or anyone
else who you think might be interested in the project, we would be very
grateful.

Kate is a mature postgraduate student, who is also a part time lecturer;
I’m sure her reflections will be worth reading.

This process has already started. Log on and spread the word! On-line
