Dear All,
The NUS have just published research on the teaching and learning
experience of students - part of a series.
Highlights are quoted as:
* 89% rated the quality of their teaching and learning experience as
either good or excellent
* students receive on average 14 hours on contact, 76% thought their
contact hours were appropriate however this satisfaction was, in
part, linked to the number of hours they received
* students want to be more involved in shaping the content,
curriculum and design of their course 31% currently feel more than
somewhat involved compared to 61% that want to be involved. They
want to be involved in providing feedback on the course design
(71%), being involved in setting assessment criteria (31%), being
a course rep (18%)
* 55% said they received feedback on assessments within four weeks,
however almost a quarter, 23%, had to wait over four weeks
* 90% of students wanted feedback on their exams, only 12% of
students currently received written comments on their exams
* only 32% of students thought that assessment is a part of the
learning process
* 87% of students used their VLE on a weekly basis and 69% used the
internet as part of their studies on a daily basis, 46% of
students feel that use of ICT has enhanced their studies
