If anyone wants to travel down to the church from the Uni together, then we would meet at the Tower Reception at 4.15pm as I have to truck equipment down.  It’s very easy to get there, diagonally across the road from Euston station or along the main road from Kings Cross tube station.

Message from the Vice Chancellor

I was delighted to see the London Met entry to the Show as it passed by the grandstand near St Paul’s Cathedral. I thought it was tremendously well organized and added a real splash of colour on an otherwise rather drab day.

I congratulate everyone who worked on it, whether undergraduate, postgraduate or staff. I hope you will feel proud of what has been achieved, and the goodwill that has been strengthened with the Corporation of the City of London and the Lord Mayor, who is a vice-patron of our University.

Malcolm Gillies

Vice Chancellor

London Metropolitan University

Tenors un Limited Concert – TODAY TRAVEL PLANS!! updated 13:52, Wed.

————–
Wed – The gig day!!
————–

Meet at Kings Cross at 5pm and board train together (fuller details at bottom of this post).  If not meeting us there, then meet at East Croydon Railway Station at 5.50pm.  We then walk round the corner to Fairfield Halls:

http://www.fairfield.co.uk/pdpages/findfairfield.htm

Soundcheck: 6.15pm   (We have to be onstage ready to go by then.  We’ll run straight into building, find green room, dump gear, get straight onstage and do any walk-on/offs we need to practice)

Concert: 8pm  (soon as we’re done rehearsing onstage, we’ll have the time betwee 7.15pm-ish to get dressed/made-up etc.  Then we get seated onstage!)

Dresscode:  SMART All Black.  This is it.  Get dressed up!!!  (LYGC, you will have your regular flash of red (use red as an accessory, flair).

London Met:  We’re singing our Medley.
LYGC:  Run to You, Blessing in the Storm, Take Me Back

Post Concert: We’ll see what Tenors are doing, but we might go across the road to the All Bar One for a drink before return trains back home!

Emergency Contacts/Running Late/Lost:  London Met, please call Nav and figure your routes out.  LYGC, please call Sonny.

———
TRAVEL PLANS:
  Fairfield Halls,
———
map: http://www.fairfield.co.uk/pdpages/mappop.htm

East Croydon Rail station is where we’re going.  It takes 40ish minutes from King’s Cross St Pancras International Terminal.  Go right up the new concourse literally to the other end and you’ll see the First Capital Connect ticket booth and gates.  Trains run very regularly but we have to get there earlier so, 5.10 and if you miss that 5.28.  After that, you’ll just have missed the band rehearsal with them but can catch up on the choirs rehearsing their stuff together!

——–
PLAN:  Catch 5.10pm, arrive East Croydon 5.46pm.
——–

Walking from the East Croydon station to venue is very easy.  Come out of station, turn right, you’re walking downhill.  At first big junction, turn left and you’ll see a the Fairfield Halls on the left-handside of the road about 200 metres along.  (It’s the building on the right of this map just above).

BOTH CHOIRS:  If you ABSOLUTELY can not make the soundcheck time and have to come later from work, that is understood.  We will attempt to ensure that we go through any instructions and re-run the walk-on/off with the choirs again before they close the stage at 7.30pm.  But it is your own duty to learn the words and be aware and follow everyone else’s lead.  And more importantly, to do as you’re requested once you  are there.  It will make you much more comfortable and you’ll have less to worry about.  In order to minimise that too, please make sure you have really learned your words before Wed!!!

Plans

What to Wear:
- Cheerleaders are in your own costumes
- Dancers, MA Events Students and Choir will all be in the plain black outfits provided by University
- Footwear:  Please wear your own plain black shoes.  Make sure they are comfortable for walking, dancing and are as waterproof as possible!!
- Warmth: The combats lower halves provided will allow you to wear your own jeans/trousers underneath.  Your own clothes should NOT be visible but PLEASE WEAR at least ONE LAYER UNDERNEATH.  It will be cold, if not wet and windy, and you CANNOT wear a coat outer layer.  If you have your own Purple/Silver scarves that match our London Met Shades, then you can wear those.  Gloves that are plain black, silver or purple (again, London Met shades) can/should be brought if you own them, we have a limited number!
- Banners: There will be 2meter length banners.  They are like scarves.  You can use them to ‘excite’ your outfit: wear them as sarongs, scarves, ponchos, whatever!  Try to not drag them along the ground, if at any point you have your hands free, wave them about etc.
- Costumes and Letters: We are to wear hat type things that have dots (the London Met logo dots) and letters to hang round our necks.  The letters will spell ‘London Metropolitan University’ and whilst the CheerLeaders are doing their bits, we’ll be running around respelling other words to do with London Met.

Where to Meet:
- Moorgate Building, 84 Moorgate EC2M 6SQ.

Emergency Contacts on the Day:
- This will get updated by mid-week with a name and number.  Your ‘section’ (Cheer, Dance, Choir, MA) will have a captain.  If you’re running late/having an issue, check in with them.

Security:
- It is highly likely that you MAY NOT carry your mobile on the route.  ALL of our things will be safely locked away in Moorgate.  In order to conserve space, and prevent any unfortunate incidents, please don’t bring other valuable things with you that you won’t need.  The combat trousers will have lots of pockets for small purses/wallets, but everything else will have to get locked away.

Choir Next 2 Weeks: Lord Mayor’s Parade – Confirmation and Prep

Please copy the questions below into an email, answer the questions and blast it back to Nav on music@londonmet.ac.uk    TODAY!!!!!!!

Thanks!!

—————–
Lord Mayor’s Parade  Sat 13th Nov
—————–

We are very lucky to represent the Uni at this famous parade.  Annually, a 3mile long parade processes through the City of London.  This is the square mile of the financial district of London around City Campus and it has it’s own mayor, the Lord Mayor (NOT ‘The’ Mayor of London).  The day starts early, the parade is begun by a flyover from the Royal Air Force (RAF) and then continues after the parade in celebrations that culminate in Fireworks over the Thames.

We will learn material over the next two weeks and perform it as we parade!  Outfits are being bought by Marketing (plain black warm stuff, with splashes of purple).  Banners are being made by 300 undergraduate Events Management students that we will carry.  70 MA Events & Marketing students have been building the hype around us going (International Students events, FB/Twitter/etc, posters, stickers on the coffee cups of every cafe in Uni).  The BBC will cover the event so you might even be able to wave to your Mom on global TV!!

URGENT URGENT URGENT URGENT URGENT URGENT URGENT URGENT —————-
I need the following questions answered immediately.  If your answer is NO to the first question, send me that and ignore the rest!

1) Can you make the parade day?

2) Can you make all the prep days (Thur 4th & 11th)?

3) What is your schedule Thur 4th / Fri 5th?

4) What is your top size, your waist and your inside leg?

5) Do you have any dietary requirements?

There are maybe 27 places in total for us to take part in this.  The quicker you get your reply in, the better.  Also, some people responded at the beginning of term when asked for this and so 7ish places are gone already!

Please help Nav out by doing this within 24hrs!!

Rescheduled Rehearsal and StARs Welcome Reception Event (Fri 29th Oct)

Once again, very very sorry about the rehearsal being cancelled this evening.  It will never normally happen.

So, instead, we’ll have a rehearsal  1.30-3.30 tomorrow.  I know it will limit people attending, and I’m sorry, but I hope that it will at least refresh and warm up those doing the event.  Meet Tower Reception 1.15pm.
—————————
StARs Reception Event:

LOCATION: GC108, Graduate Centre, Tower Building, North
TIME:  4.25pm – 6pm (piano before, choir during, ensemble (instrumentalists) after!)
DRESS CODE: All Black, Smart
MATERIAL:  Choir – ‘Blessing in the Storm’, ‘Seasons of Love’ and ‘God’s Gonna Set’
Instrumentalists – Pachelbel Canon, Vivaldi ‘La Follia’ and depending Bach Double
END: Choir done by 6.20pm; instrumentalists by 6.50 latest

MEETING DETAILS:

CHOIR
If just joining us closer to time can you come to Tower Building Reception at 4pm and we’ll warm up in the cool new reception area on the ground floor under the Piazza and before you go out into the courtyard.  More people will get to know about us and the event that way!

INSTRUMENTALISTS
Get to Tower Building for 4pm and a room will be booked for you to warm-up in.  This time you will actually be playing in the room of the event (although I personally think that having you play in the larger space (with the iconic angled window) would be much better acoustic).  Please get ready to enter GC108 on my text ‘cue’, that would be great.

Running late/lost/any questions, please call Nav!
