Remote Access is primarily provided to support disaster recovery in the event of major problems at the University, or disruptions to transport systems preventing key staff from getting in to work. It is therefore limited to a number of key designated individuals.
However, on request from a Department Head and with permission granted by the ISS Director, other staff may be granted use of the remote access accounts to allow them to work at home as if they were in the office, subject to there being no emergency.
Remote Access is provided on a secure basis by using a proxy server running encrypted SSL sessions on the virtual private network (VPN) for traffic security; and using 2-factor authorisation for assured positive user identification.
For further information and to request a Remote Access connection please contact the Service Desk specifying you are seeking a remote access connection.
