London Met Career Mentoring Programme

The Career Mentoring Programme was re-launched in September 2011 with an astounding 320 students applying for the opportunity to be matched to professional mentors and gain an insight into the world of work.
The programme co-ordinated by Student Services (Careers) attracted more than 200 students from the Business School, followed by a sound 57 students from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities Faculty, and a smaller number from the Faculty of Life Sciences, Sir John Cass and the Faculty of Computing.
With the support of our external business organisations East London Business Alliance and Adab Trust, 26 volunteer mentors from prestigious organisations such as Turner Broadcasting, Merrill Lynch and Standard Chartered Bank were recruited. Following a competitive selection process, students were matched to our mentors. Amongst our mentees, we have students from Banking and Finance, Electronic and Communications Engineering, Digital Media, International Journalism and many more.
Both mentor volunteers and students attended a ‘Mentor Meet Mentee’ event on 17th November organised by Student Services (Careers), with the support of the Business School and our business partners. Mentors and mentees received training to support them in their roles.
Following the event, a mentee wrote:  “Thank you! You’ve done a great job and I am sincerely grateful for choosing me and for matching me with someone who’s so close to what I want to do after I graduate”.
Our search for volunteer mentors continues.
If you are a member of Londonmet staff with at least 3 years professional experience and would like to take part in the programme, we would be delighted to hear from you.
