MetTemps offers both paid work within the University and voluntary roles within local charities or community organisations.
On Saturday 17th September we will be holding a Health and Fitness day in the London Metropolitan University sports hall. This is to mark Low Vision Week, and will be from 12noon to 4pm. We will be running taster sessions of sports designed for blind and visually impaired people such as Dance and Movement, Sound ball Tennis, adaptive Botcha, Walking football and chair exercises.
We want blind and visually impaired people to have every opportunity to socialise and be part of the community. Therefore, we are organising coffee mornings for visually impaired residents of Islington. We will be serving tea & coffee, cake and snacks; we will also be organising entertainment such as quizzes, art sessions, talks and games.
We want blind and visually impaired people to be able to take part in social and leisure events, to alleviate isolation and encourage social networks. As part of this, we are organising events in Islington. We are looking for volunteers who can help in the following area: Helping to guide people. This could be helping with transport or help guiding around the venue. Chatting, making conversation and describing the surroundings. Support ordering drinks, food or reading a menu. General support wherever needed. Training will be provided.
We are running VI Fridays for Blind and Visually Impaired people in Islington to learn new skills such as IT, creative writing and we have an afternoon exercise session. This takes place in the lovely Outlook Centre in Islington. We are looking for volunteers to support the IT and creative writing sessions. We have experience tutor’s on-hand, so you don’t need specific skills.
Mary’s is looking for a savvy individual who knows their way around social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and WordPress in order to promote activities at the Youth Club and support PR events.
This position is very flexible ranging from 2-3 hours a week. The main aim of this position is to raise Mary’s profile and support the promotion of our activities and opportunities.
Mary’s is looking for an enthusiastic football coach who is willing to lead a group of young people’s football class. The sessions takes place every Tuesday from 6:00 pm-7:30 pm (in addition to this we also have basketball classes)
The session will entail meeting the young people who attend, leading drills and key skills to play. Please reply if you have had experience in coaching teams!
