Independent Voices : an Open Access Collection of an Alternative Press

Drawn from the special collections of our partner libraries, Duke University and Northwestern University, the first Reveal Digital Collection – Independent Voices is a significant milestone in a four-year project to digitize the special collections of nearly 1,000 magazine, newsletters, newspapers and other archival material that has hitherto not been accessible to the wider research community. It includes over one million pages from the magazines, journals, newsletters, and newspapers of the alternative press archives of participating libraries spanning the 1960s to the 1980s. Starting with collections by feminists and the GI press, the collection has grown to include small literary magazines, underground newspapers, LGBT periodicals, the minority press (Latino, Black and Native American) and the extreme right-wing press

The South Eastern Gazette (1852-1912), formerly the Maidstone Gazette, was a major regional title for the south-east of England, covering much of the South-East of England from East Hampshire through to Surrey and Sussex to South Essex and parts of London. This archive covers topics from transport to technology, health and education, crime and politics. It can used as a learning tool to explore Kent’s history during the Victorian and Edwardian eras and will also be of interest to people researching family history
