Artists’ books;library exhibition

artists' books on displayCommercial Road Library is the venue for a display of works of art that are in book-like form. The definition of what is an artist’s book is elusive and somewhat subjective. It isn’t merely a catalogue or illustrations of the artist’s  or artists’ work  (it can be a collaboration). To qualify as an artist’s book, the book in itself should be conceived as an artwork. In addition, there should be a way to answer yes to the  question ‘does it have bookness?’ as raised in ‘The Book as Art’ by Les Bicknell. The display is drawn from the Artists’ Book Collection at Commercial Road Library and can be viewed until 18th April 2012. Easter opening hours
