Please be aware of problems with Carto message from Edina who provide Digimap
“Following recent changes to popular web browsers and updates to Java installations some users have experienced difficulties using Carto. We understand that there have also been some instances of problems with Carto working on the latest 64-bit versions of operating systems (mostly Windows 7).
Many of these problems are now beyond our control. However, we are currently looking for workaround solutions wherever possible.
The following page has more information about possible solutions to get Carto working:
http://digimap.edina.ac.uk/webhelp/os/osdigimaphelp.htm#carto/carto_notes.htm
Given these recent changes, we regret that we are no longer able to continue development on the platform used by Carto. Instead, we will be developing a replacement advanced mapping service.
Carto will continue to be available until its replacement is complete, but we cannot guarantee that it will continue to function with the latest updates to your internet browser and to your Java installation.
We would strongly suggest you try Roam if Carto fails to operate as expected.
Digimap Roam offers the majority of functionality available in Carto and some extra functions. Roam can print at A3 and A4, portrait and landscape, add annotations and labels to your map and measure distances and areas”.
Doesn’t sound like good news – at least in the short term – but hope it helps

This is a reminder about an issue we have identified with anti-virus software installed on computers blocking the maps streamed from Digimap. We have noticed that versions of Kaspersky Anti-Virus seem to be particularly problematic.
Adding Digimap to the list of trusted sites should resolve this problem, although the specific format of the URL to trust is important. If maps are failing to load for you too, please check that Digimap is listed as one of your trusted sites. If Digimap is listed and the maps still fail to load, please contact us for assistance. We will need to know the name and version of the anti-virus software you think may be causing a problem.
You can read more about this on our blog here:

Please feel free to pass this information to others in your institution.
Availability
Digimap is normally available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. In common with all EDINA services, planned system maintenance that requires making the system unavailable will be carried out during EDINA’s “at risk” periods of 17:30 – 18:30 on Tuesdays. Prior notice of the system being unavailable during these at risk periods will be given through the message area on the Digimap login page, and on the EDINA website.
