Daniel Libeskind, Architect celebrated his favourite “modest” London Metropolitan University building ten years on. Also known as the Orion Building, representing the constellation of Orion.
I attended this lively and well attended event. Paul Bowler, Deputy CE, introduced the speakers. Professor Robert Mull, The Cass Dean, set the scene with the story of the police being called out to investigate by the general public alarmed by what they took to be the collapse of the building. He also set the context of the past VC Brian Roper’s vision for the newly merged university, how buildings can engender regeneration to raise student and community aspirations.

Daniel insisted upon a lively discussion, with Prof. Peter Carl (a close friend who had saved his daughter’s life from a Florida tornado) and questions, questions and more questions with some answers, hypotheses, contemplation, jokes, conversation, dialogue, legends, astrology, philosophy, mathematics, banter, rapport and notions of common good.
