To coincide with the exhibition Magnificent Obsessions at the Barbican gallery, we have put together a display of books from Commercial Road library exploring collecting and artists who collect. The display is in the cabinets outside the library.

The exhibition Magnificent Obsessions  highlights the inspirations, influences and obsessions of artists who collect, ranging from mass produced memorabilia to one of a kind curiosities.

From bottles that contained poison to Chairman Mao badges, the list of weird and wonderful things people collect is a fascinating one and there are many books in our collection on this topic to explore.

If you are interested in this subject there is also the current series on BBC2, Collectaholics , looking at some of Britain’s obsessive collectors.
